About Us

A Leader in Sustainable Business

Beginning in January 2008 Earthstones Horticultural division will be known as Growstone's, LLC.

Founded in 1993 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Earthstone is proud to be a recognized leader in the growing international movement toward sustainable business practices. The company has found a way to make products out of recycled bottles, including environmentally friendly cleaning products, hydroponics substrates, potting soil amendments, green building materials, container garden soil enhancers and outdoor living accessories which are practical, functional and affordable components of a consumer and industrial marketplace. In 2008 Earthstone decided it would divide its business into two parts and the Growstone, LLC would focus on the sustainable horticulture and agriculture markets while Earthstone maintained its focus environmentally safe cleaning, and engineered abrasives.

Growstone, LLC produces, markets and sells consumer, horticultural, and industrial products using patented technology which converts recycled bottles into products which are:

  • high-performance
  • customizable
  • innovative
  • environmentally friendly
  • non-toxic

History

Earthstone was co-founded by eco-preneurs Andrew Ungerleider and Gay Dillingham in response to the destructive strip mining for pumice they saw taking place in New Mexico. Ungerleider brought his experience with developing financially successful yet environmentally friendly enterprises to the challenge. To combat pumice mining, he knew he had to find a superior alternative for industrial and household pumice products. So he developed a new method for recycling glass into a super fine powder which could be used in a patented manufacturing process.

While the first products were for consumer and industrial cleaning and sanding applications, continued development of the patented technology has led to product applications in varied areas including floriculture, filtration, and green technology building materials.

A Green Alternative

Growstone products keep waste glass from the landfill by using green technology as an alternative to destructive strip mining of pumice. New products are also creating viable alternatives for additional strip mined materials, such as perlite, vermiculite and haydite (shale). On top of that, these products have superior physical characteristics and performance which exceeds that of the traditional alternatives.

Looking Ahead

Growstone continues to develop new products and move into new markets by using patented technology and innovation. The company’s horticulture, consumer and industrial product lines are expanding.
